JOB SUMMARY:
This accounting internship provides exposure to the day-to-day operations of an accounting department in a professional environment. The Accounting Intern will learn internal audit techniques while performing procedures on game day and during the week following Chiefs games. This candidate will also obtain hands on experience in areas such as accounts payable and fixed assets while working closely with the accounting staff. Other responsibilities include the completion of Microsoft Excel projects as necessary, tracking the contents of the accounting storage area, and scanning and electronically filing documents. This position reports to the Controller.
We accept candidates from all major areas of study for internships; however, we attempt to match appropriate majors with the department offering the internship. Candidates must be current college students and must receive academic credit for the internship. Candidates must have housing available in the Kansas City area and must be willing to work long and flexible hours including work weeks, Chiefs home football games, and Chiefs events.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Set-up and maintain numerous accounting spreadsheets dealing with event day activities.
• Organize and maintain department files for accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Assist staff accountant with processing accounts payable for all departments, including but not limited to invoice reconciliations, voucher preparation, and check cutting.
• Find supporting documentation for all transactions made with corporate credit card.
• Reconcile daily cash, process deposits and maintain change banks.
• Prepare, verify and process invoices.
• Assist with game day inventory tracking and analysis.
• Bill and credit accounts in the accounts payable system.
• Prepare and mail bills or statements, and prepare lists of outstanding bills payable.
• Assist with preparation of daily and month-end reports, and analysis.
• May audit and proof accounting or other reports for clerical accuracy and conformance to departmental, county, and state procedures.
• Assist Controller with month-end financial reports.
• Post journal entries.
• Assist with various finance and accounting projects.
• Perform other general front office duties as required.

6. Must have a working knowledge of the following Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and have internet research skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Light office duties and activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS):
1. Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program or higher with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline.
2. Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) required.
3. Must have high level of written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
4. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information required.
5. Requires continual attention to detail and a high level of organization.
6. Ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects by establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.

This internship is an unpaid position.
HOURS REQUIRED:
Flexible schedule and the ability to work extra hours as needed. 40 hours per week.
