Description and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Packaging Engineer & Development Manager, the Packaging Intern will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and leading activities for purchasing and performing the following duties.
The unique proposition of this role is that you will have the opportunity to operate in packaging design to commercialization & procurement related responsibilities while engaging in a highly dynamic & progressive environment.
The individual will be working at the HQ of Kerry for NA alongside cross function teams at Beloit, WI. You will get an opportunity to work on multiple packaging materials like flexible, paperboard, rigid, semi-rigid & packaging technologies like vertical form fill seal, horizontal form fill seal, Aseptic, Retort, Hot Fill etc..
Responsibility for Packaging design, development, validation & execution
Packaging Research and Development is a well-respected, innovative and growing industry.
You will take on a leading role in structural packaging development as you work closely with a cross-functional team, including Marketing, Sales, and Supply Chain.
You will be exposed to highly automated production lines, food processing, and packaging materials manufacturing.
Projects you work on will be sold in the supermarket, on store shelves across the continent for customers
You will provide engineering services and innovative solutions to develop consumer packaging from conception to implementation
You will Update packaging specification database, create new pallet pattern configurations using tools like TOPs, manage and lead projects for new products and continuous improvement initiatives
You will get exposure to understanding customer requirements and communicate with suppliers and cross functional team members on a regular basis
You will lead trials to test new packaging material and formats in manufacturing plants across North America.
You will develop and construct prototypes and render engineering drawings
You will co-ordinate departmental and cross functional meetings
Other related duties
Responsibility for procurement related tasks
Plans, organizes, directs, and controls activities related to the categories of spend managed
Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability/price, and prepares market analysis reports.
Evaluate vendor quotations with the appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure optimal quality, price, delivery, and service.
Prepares and issues purchase contracts and change notices.
Reviews and resolves vendor claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
Prepares and reviews contracts, bids, proposals, and vendor agreements for legal correctness, price, and acceptability of items to specifications.
Oversees all activities related to procurement of packaging, from intent to purchase through delivery of the material.
Identify and present new packaging ideas and innovations.
Assists in new packaging development and commercialization process.
Drives cost savings initiatives through negotiation, design and operational efficiencies.
Junior or Senior year level college student, with minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, pursuing a Bachelorâ€™s degree in Packaging or related discipline. In addition to strong English communication skills, Spanish language skills are beneficial.

Experience with CAPE or TOPS
Have completed at least two years of courses seeking a Packaging or Engineering Degree
Preferred if previously completed at least one co-op or internship
Efficient in Excel and Word
Proficient at using latest means of staying connected like Skype / Lync etc.
Physical Demands :
Regularly required to sit; use hands for typing / writing and talk or hear.
Must be capable of lifting and / or moving up to 25 pounds.
Must have vision abilities of close vision and color vision. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.

Travel Need : 60-70% depending upon the needs of the project.
