Material Science Lab Technician Internship
A Fortune 500 power systems company headquartered in Milwaukee, WI is seeking an engineering intern. This opportunity will be 40 hours/week during Summer 2018 and part time during Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters.
This person, while working under the guidance of a Materials Engineer, is responsible for preparing mounts of samples for evaluation of their materials properties, taking hardness measurements, corrosion chamber testing, and general lab duties associated with Materials Engineering.
Learn/operate these Chemistry & Materials Engineering Instruments and Equipment
Sample preparation equipment
SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope w/ED and WD detectors)
Plating thickness measurement (XRF)
Corrosion sample preparation and evaluation
Organizes data / images into designated formats
Performs special projects, as requested.
Assumes a Team Member Role on projects.
Displays a responsible attitude toward work assignments
Identifies and suggests quality / process improvement ideas.
Willingness to team with others to complete varied work assignments.
Ability to exercise independent judgment
Ability to process multiple assignments
Must possess ability to articulate analytical results, both written and orally, to the customer.
Draws upon knowledge (formal training and experience) and communication skills to influence others and/or to facilitate resolution of materials problems.
Responds quickly and efficiently to customer requests for information and technical assistance.
Ensures thorough familiarity with company policies and procedures. Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws. Policies and procedures include, but not limited to: Standards of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO 9000 & 14000, government regulations (e.g. health, safety, quality and environmental), and functional policies published on the Rockwell Automation Information Network.
Minimum Sophomore Standing in a Bachelor of Science Degree Program in Materials Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering at an accredited University or College.
HOURS: 10 to 12 hours per week during the school year
40 hours per week during the summer break
