The Commercial Operations Intern role will support the current US 

Market’s business needs while gaining experience and understanding for how 

Merck’s Operations function manages people, equipment, technology and 

information to enable the commercial organization’s achievement of desired 

business results.  As a member of the US 

Operations team, this role will work closely with Operations, Sales and

Marketing leadership on key strategic issues and business challenges.  This role will work cross-functionally within

US Operations and across the broader commercial organization (to include

Marketing, Sales, Compliance, Legal, Finance, IT, etc.)

Types of work may include:

Evaluate effectiveness of current Sales Force

Application (SFA) tools and develop recommendations to enhance / transform c

apabilities in alignment with evolving customer engagement strategies

Lead initiative to optimize internal 

communications (content, channels, processes, etc.), including virtual engagement capabilities

Gather / analyze primary and secondary research 

to evaluate current field sales Incentive compensation plan designs and processes;  

Translate insights into action plans to streamline and optimize Merck’s approach across all US field sales organizations

Analyze and synthesize Key Performance

Indicators (KPIs) and other leading indicators to identify opportunities to 

optimize marketing investments across brands and channels

Miscellaneous direct support and / or project 

management for other US Operations transformation initiatives


Education Minimum Requirement:

BA or BS Degree Required.

Current enrollment in an MBA program. 

Candidate must have completed one year of MBA coursework by Summer 2019 and be registered for the Fall 2019 Semester

Required Experience and Skills:

Strong understanding of, and experience with, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Strategic/critical thinking

Strong interpersonal, written, verbal and negotiation/influence skills

Strong collaboration, project management and organizational skills; ability to act with minimal supervision, prioritize activities and manage multiple tasks within deadlines 

Must be able to begin intern assignment June 2019 and commit for 9-12 weeks

Preferred Experience and Skills:

Business / Data analysis experience

Experience with various Business Intelligence (BI) platforms

Experience in sales and / or marketing

Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech or related industries
