Our implantsnand instruments are used by orthopedic surgeons to treat patients withnconditions resulting from traumatic injuries, degenerative diseases,ndeformities, and sports related injuries. The Biomaterials R&DnGroup within DePuy Synthes develops products based on advanced biomaterialsnsuch as ceramic bone void fillers, bioabsorbable polymer implants, drug-devicencombination products, and cell-based therapies. We engage in earlynstage evaluation of new materials technologies, device design and development,nmanufacturing process development, and support of preclinical testing andnregulatory submissions. The Biomaterials R&D group collaboratesnwith other divisions within DePuy Synthes (Trauma, Spine, Joint Reconstruction,netc.), as well as surgeons, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, Sales, and othernfunctional departments to define and develop product concepts. The Biomaterials R&Dnco-op will perform R&D activities in a team environment. They will assistnscientists and engineers in our R&D laboratories to fabricate devicenprototypes, and may conduct mechanical, chemical, and performance testing tonevaluate device performance. The co-op will conductnexperiments and provide data, results analysis, and reports to project teams inna timeline driven process, and will contribute to the efficient operation ofnR&D laboratories. The co-op will exercisentechnical judgment in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments,nand use professional concepts to solve complex problems in creative andneffective ways. They will maintain anlaboratory notebook and other technical documentation according to requirednguidelines. The co-op may be askednto provide other project or product support as needed in order to supportnSynthesu2019 business objectives. This position requiresnwork in a Biosafety Level 2 lab, and requires less than 5% travel. QualificationsThe successful candidatenwill have strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills, andnshould be observant and be able to think creatively. They will be able tonlearn quickly and work independently with minimal direct supervision. Thencandidate should have an interest in chemistry, biology, materials science, ornmedical device design and testing. A GPA of 3.0 or greater is preferred. Candidate must benavailable to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the ~6 month co-op session.nStudents must be able to provide their own transportation to this locationn(some public transportation options are available). Students must be legallynauthorized to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship fornemployment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future. Qualifiedncandidates must be a current University Engineering student. We are looking forncandidates pursuing a degree in Ceramic Science & Engineering, MaterialsnEngineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or MechanicalnEngineering. We arenlooking for candidates that are highly motivated and can work independently onnone or multiple projects under general direction and can exhibit an attentionnto detail. Establish and foster collaboration and partnership internally andnexternally. Has a good sense of priorities and manages time accordingly. Has strong communication skills (writtennand verbal), including experience presenting in front of multidisciplinarynaudiences, and attending team meeting face to face and by teleconference.nKnowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software is required as well as intermediate to advanced softwarenskills with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is required. Housing/relocation assistance would benconsidered if deemed appropriate.n
